History
The house was built around 1883 by two brothers to be shared by their two families. As it was passed down the family line at some point it became divided into two self-contained units.
Until the 1990s two relatives of that family lived here, one in each half. After the death of one, the right-hand half of the house was renovated and we bought it in 1998 (on our wedding anniversary).
In 2008, following the death of our neighbour Signorina Rina, we were able to buy the other half.
Renovation
The two photos show before and after.
In 2009 we completely renovated the entire house to unify the two halves and create a wonderfully spacious, comfortable house, fully complying with the latest energy-efficiency requirements.
This involved reducing the house to the shell of the external walls, demolishing interior walls, installing new floors throughout with proper insulation and underfloor heating, complete re-wiring and new plumbing, solar panels, a new fireplace, an enlarged kitchen, a loggia and a new roof.
Parking
A further welcome change is that our garden now extends on the other side of our guest house to the small road, Via Antica della Croce. We now have a drive from the road to the house, with parking space for several cars on our own property - a rare privilege in this part of Liguria. Please use this entrance and park by our guest house.
