Parking in Imperia
Finding a parking space in Imperia is not easy, especially in August. So here are a few tips.
Colour
In town, parking bays are marked on the road with white or blue lines.White indicates that parking is free, blue that you must buy a ticket at the parcometro dispenser situated nearby.
Timing: Italians take lunch seriously
Between 12.30 and mid-afternoon the town is much emptier. Most shops are closed but this means more parking is available. We often use that to park in Porto Maurizio and have a quick swim at Borgo Foce. Most blue parking is also free between 12.30 and 2.30.
Parking in Porto Maurizio (see picture)
Currently (summer 2011) the lowest floor of the underground car park off Piazza Ricci in the centre of Porto usually has space.(Rumour has it that traffic wardens rarely check whether cars parked there have a parcometro ticket.)
Parking in Oneglia
There is free parking approaching Oneglia on the lower road, Lungomare Amerigo Vespucci.Immediately past the harbour there is another large car park on the right.
The beach road from the harbour to the east, Via Angelo Silvio Novaro, also has a lot of free parking. (The swimming is good here, too.)
