Climate
The Ligurian coast is characterised by steep valleys which run from the Alps to the sea. This leads to an extremely varied micro-climate, with some valleys being much colder than neighbouring ones. Imperia is fortunate in enjoying favourable conditions, among the best not only in Liguria but the whole of Italy. We have a lot of sunshine: 2,900 hours per year. The official meteorological statistics give 140 clear days, 165 changeable days and just 60 days with rain per year.
Particularly in summer, however, the heat is normally tempered by a pleasant sea breeze. The average summer temperature is 31°C. We often hear of the rest of Italy sweltering in the heat, while we can invariably enjoy the summer.
The winters are very mild, with an average of 13°C. We often have wonderful sunshine with snow-covered hills set against a blue sky.
More about winter sunshine!
Another factor is that humidity is generally low. The air is sometimes so clear that Corsica can be seen from the coast. Together with the moderate temperatures, this dry marine climate is ideal for heart and lung patients.
